This course explores the emergence and development of the concept of sexuality in German discourse, and its entanglement with race and gender (taught in English, asynchronous).
Did you know that sexuality is often considered a German invention?
This class will examine how sexuality was constructed and has changed throughout German history, from the end of the 19th century to the present, paying special attention to its construction before, during and after Nazism. We will alsoengage with portrayals of sexuality in both film and literature,and sexuality’s entanglement with race and gender. We’ll use what we learn to think about sexuality, race and gender in the contemporary United States. Taught in English, asynchronous; CRN 41607.
